When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead

Newman Communications brought Jerry Weintraub’s story to life with a book publicity tour that had him speaking with national radio networks including Westwood One, Talk America, and the USA Radio Networks. Jerry also spoke to major stations such as WBZ in Boston, WCBS in New York, and KABC in Los Angeles as well as to numerous local stations across the country.

In WHEN I STOP TALKING, YOU’LL KNOW I’M DEAD, written with Rich Cohen, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, we follow entertainment titan Jerry Weintraub from his first great success at age twenty-six with Elvis Presley, whom he took on the road with the help of Colonel Tom Parker, to immortal days with Sinatra, and his crowning hits as a movie producer, starting with Robert Altman’s Nashville, continuing with Diner, Oh, God!, and The Karate Kid series, among others, and summiting with Steven Soderbergh and Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen, which together earned well over a billion dollars worldwide.

About The Book

Weintraub shepherds us from the poker tables of Palm Springs (the games went on for days) to the power rooms of Hollywood, and from the halls of the White House to Red Square in Moscow and the Great Palace in Beijing—all the while counseling potentates, poets, and kings, with clients and confidants like Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, John Denver, Bobby Fischer, George H. W. Bush, Armand Hammer, George Clooney, Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon . . . the list goes on.

With wit, wisdom, and the cool confidence that has colored his remarkable career, Weintraub chronicles a quintessentially American journey, one marked by luck, love, and improvisation. The stories he tells and the lessons we learn are essential, not just for those who love movies and music, but for businessmen, entrepreneurs, artists . . . for everyone.

About The Author:

JERRY WEINTRAUB has spent more than five decades in show business, in the process earning a reputation as one of the savviest negotiators, smartest producers, and shrewdest film investors of our time. He has been praised and honored for his philanthropic work and, as UNICEF’s Man of the Year, was presented the organization’s Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award.

RICH COHEN, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, is the author of five books, including the bestsellers Tough Jews, The Avengers, and Israel Is Real.

Michael Jackson was an incredible entertainer. Some of us are even lucky enough to remember his performance on the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Motown on TV. Jackson’s famous moonwalk stole the show and he received rave reviews for his dancing expertise. As the news of Jackson’s untimely demise spread the world felt a sense of shock and mourning .

Photographer Todd Gray worked with Michael Jackson for several years before Jackson requested that he become his personal photographer, a relationship that would encompass the singer’s performances with the Jacksons through the release of his smash solo albums Off the Wall and Thriller.

Newman Communications had the pleasure to work with Todd Gray, providing him with a radio audience on networks across the country to discuss his years with the “gloved one”. Reaching a multitude of listeners, Gray talked on the USA Radio Network,Cable Radio Network, The Family Network and numerous power stations from New York to Oregon.

Gray’s collection of unseen, intimate, and joyful pictures of Michael taken over a span of 10 years reveal him at home, with his family and fans, in career-making live performances, and the on the “Beat It” video shoot.

Gray, a young black man not much older than Jackson at the time they met, brings unique insights to his time with the singer, contributing stories and context to the images, presenting a rare, intimate portrait of Jackson at a creative peak as he grew from a brilliantly talented young man into a pop icon.

Todd Gray photographed Michael Jackson over a period of 10 years, often as Jackson’s chosen photographer. He has shot numerous album covers and directed music videos, and his photo-based artwork is in the permanent collections of museums in the U.S. and abroad. He is currently a professor of art and photography at Cal State University, Long Beach, and lives in Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson was a rare and talented performer who was known as “the King Of Pop” and we here at Newman Communications, are pleased to provide some insight into the life of this man “Before He Was King”

Kathy Griffin thinks that she is only a D-List celebrity, but with the release of her new book OFFICIAL BOOK CLUB SELECTION: A MEMOIR ACCORDING TO KATHY GRIFFIN, she will soon shoot to A-List stardom! Kathy Griffin has officially selected Newman Communications to help her reach superstar status with a radio media tour promoting this hilarious, yet raw and real story of her life (with the help of Oprah too…are you listening Miss O?). With interviews on some of the biggest stations across the nation, such as WBMX-FM in Boston, The Bob & Sheri Radio Network, and KIOI-FM in San Francisco, Kathy sure got her story out there!

In OFFICIAL BOOK CLUB SELECTION, the two-time Emmy winner & Grammy nominee is unplugged, uncensored, and unafraid to dish about what really happens on the road, away from the cameras, and at the star party after the show. You’ve seen her life today on the Bravo reality show KATHY GRIFFIN: MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST, but now take a glimpse at Kathy before she became the loud-mouthed, cynical (and sometimes envelope pushing) comedian she is today!

The book opens up about everything, from growing up in a dysfunctional family, to her love affair with junk food, to her well-publicized plastic surgeries (this section complete with pictures that Kathy describes as “something you would see on CSI”), her failed marriage as well as her relationship with Apple founder, Steve Wozniak. She leaves no topic off-limits!

Writing with her trademark wit, the feisty red-headed comedian is refreshingly candid, unflinchingly honest, and full of candid “did she really say that?” moments in OFFICIAL BOOK CLUB SELECTION. This book will make you laugh until you cry, or just pee a little bit!

In his latest novel, ACCIDENTIAL BILLIONAIRES The Founding of Facebook: A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal, Ben Mezrich proves that he is one of today’s most brilliant authors. The Boston native, who also wrote the cult classic BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, has chosen publicity firm and hometown ally Newman Communications to help promote the astonishing story behind two Harvard outcasts and the world famous Facebook.

Beyond the status updates, personal pokes, and party photos, ACCIDENTIAL BILLIONAIRES shows the dramatic history behind today’s largest social network.

What many people do not realize is that the dawn of Facebook started with two nerdy Harvard friends named Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin. Sick of being social disasters they hoped their new idea would help them meet girls and become sexually successful. Along with their original goals, they became Harvard’s most famous contemporary duo and revolutionized social communication.

Throughout Facebook’s progressive nature both Mark and Edurano drew further apart from one another. A conflict of ideas caused their friendship and lucrative earnings to be split and dealt with between two different sides of lawyers.

Mezrich’s overall splendid investigating tells the vivid story of Facebook, along with the destructive and hateful friendship it helped produce.

Similar to BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, which was later made into the movie 21 with Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth, Ben Mezrich’s newest book is in line to hit the big screen and be produced by Kevin Spacey.

It was Thanksgiving weekend, November 29, 1981 and actress Natalie Wood and actor husband, Robert Wagner, had taken their beloved yacht, Splendour, out for the holiday weekend. At 1:30 am Wagner radioed that “someone is missing from our boat.”

The world had lost its leading lady, Natalie Wood, at age forty three.

It’s been 28 years since Wood’s death. Splendour’s captain, Dennis Davern, has been haunted by that night everyday since. Spurred by guilt over letting down his friend Natalie, Davern decided it was finally time to tell all about their last voyage together. The events following her death, the restrictions placed on him during those months, and his grief had prevented him from telling the whole story, until now. Unable to live with himself for not speaking up sooner, Davern leaned on his friend, writer Marti Rulli about the experience of that day for years.

Now, decades later, Davern has recapped the “real” story of that tragic night in history in the new book, “Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour” and has brought it to Newman Communications.

Wood and Wagner loved to entertain on their luxury yacht. When Wood invited co-star, actor Christopher Walken, on board it was to be a happy casual day for them to Catalina Island and Isthmus Cove. But was it a fun laid back trip? At the helm was Captain Dennis Davern, a man who had become not only a trusted employee but a friend to both Wood and Wagner.

What happened the night Natalie died?

Many unanswered questions still haunt the captain of Splendour as well as the many fans that have remained loyal to Natalie’s legacy. Continuously tormented, Davern feels it is his duty to his friend, Natalie, that the truth be told. Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour exposes truths, that until now have been shrouded in secrecy, and events that occurred that fateful night but were treated differently because of “celebrity” status:

Why was Robert Wagner allowed to leave the scene without questioning?

Why did it take four hours for Wagner to contact the authorities about Natalie missing from the boat?

Why was Natalie still wearing her socks after a struggle in the water?

What about the down coat she wore? Did it help keep her afloat or pull her down? There were no marks or scratches on the side of the rubber dinghy indicating Natalie was trying to get in as the coroner claimed. Why would he lie?

How did Natalie get bruises on her face?

Why did coroner Thomas Naguchi lose his job after Natalie’s death?

Why weren’t any witnesses questioned? People on other nearby boats heard Natalie’s cry for help but yet no one was questioned, even after they voluntarily came forward to help.

Are celebrity deaths treated differently than your average person?

Investigations on celebrity deaths are treated very differently today than in years past. How would Natalie’s death be handled differently today?

Many questions have surrounded this night for years… Davern, with Rulli, has begged for the case to be re-opened with his facts and evidence; with the testimony of nearby boaters; with successfully taken lie detector tests to validate his story; with hypnosis to further confirm his facts; and more.

Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour details not only that night on the Splendour but how Natalie’s death has been treated since, the investigation, her family, the press, the questions, the many mysteries. Newman Communications is letting the country decide whether this is a Cold Case or a Closed Case.

Some of us rely on luck, and then there are others who have the ambition to create their own luck, but what if you had both. Imagine the possibilities. Perhaps you could be the country’s next president, a doctor who cures terminal illnesses, or an artistic genius with the ability to create films.

Identical twins, Logan and Noah Miller, were blessed with both qualities. They’re a little too young to be the president and they have no plans to attend medical school, but they are the film industry’s hottest new duo.

You won’t find they’re names on the Walk of Fame, but they are trekking along the path of greatness and book publicity firm Newman Communications is guiding them along the way. Reliving the creation of their first ever feature film Touching Home, the Miller brothers have continued their success by writing the book EITHER YOU’RE IN OR YOU’RE IN THE WAY. The book shows the grittiness and bravado of two brothers who suffered and strived as one. Each page takes you behind the scenes and into the brilliant minds of Logan and Noah Miller.

Without any financial savings, experience, or contacts, the Miller brothers rounded up a cast consisting of 11 Academy Award winners and 26 nominations.

How? A lot of luck and an everlasting burning passion to be great.

After their homeless alcoholic father died alone in a jail cell the Miller brothers set out to make a film in honor of him. Without any sense of reality the two brothers focused all of their energy on the film and day by day pieced it together. From day one they had their hearts set on Academy Award winner Ed Harris, without him even knowing
who they were, to play their father. Anyone else was not an option. Whether they had to kidnap him or not Ed Harris would play the role. Thankfully it did not come to that.

Touching Home premiered at the San Francisco Film Festival last spring. Since then both Logan and Noah have been recognized for their talents and have received numerous audience awards. Book publicity firm Newman Communications has the same hopes for EITHER YOU’RE IN OR YOU’RE IN THE WAY.
